A new luxury movie theater is on its way to Southern Hillsborough County. Indiana-based Xscape Theatres plans to build a $15 million, 14-screen facility at the intersection of Interstate 75 and Progress Boulevard. Southern Hillsborough County is poised for tremendous growth and there are big opportunities for significant amount of retail development to cater to the thousands of homes that have been built or a planned in this part of the county.

After years of limited growth, construction on hotels is surging.
The latest Commerce Department data on construction spending show that nonresidential lodging construction in August grew 41% from the same period of 2014. That marks the fourth consecutive month the annual pace of lodging construction has surpassed 39%.
Separate data compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers show that the supply of rooms may rise 1.8% this year — the first growth above 1% since 2009.

St. John’s Episcopal Parish Day School in Tampa has purchased a prime block of South Tampa that includes Irish pub Four Green Fields.
The private school paid $3.75 million for the majority of the 200 block of West Platt Street — roughly an acre – on a site that was once planned for a mixed-use project of condos over retail.

The City of Sarasota set a record for building permits in the 2014-2015 fiscal year, with 8,402 applications. It’s the first time the city surpassed 8,000 permits in one year, according to a release. The permits processed have a construction value of at least $299 million, city officials add in the statement. The city’s fiscal year ends Sept. 30.

A 39-unit townhouse development is in the works for North Hyde Park.

Gobea Capital, are partnering with Sight Real Estate to develop Las Azoteas, a 39-unit townhouse project at 405 N. Oregon Ave in the North Hyde Park area of Tampa. North Hyde Park is one of the fastest growing areas around downtown as land in South Tampa is either too expensive or simply not available.

Founders of a proposed American Marine University hope to have a 215-acre site in north Manatee for its main campus within the next three months.
The location is in Manatee County’s “port encouragement zone,” where the county offers expedited permitting and other incentives to businesses that will utilize nearby Port Manatee.
“We hope to be welcoming students in August 2017,” ‘…The first class will be very small, about 100 to 500.” Eventually, the university could have 4,500 students. Build-out of the campus could take about 10 years.
